As the reputation of Metta Vihara as an ideal Forest Monastery for intensive meditation in a remote and peaceful environment has spread within and outside Europe now, the demand for suitable lodgings has increased as well. Metta Vihara is therefore to be expanded now, so that more Bhikkhus can reside permanently and laypeople can find improved shelter as well."
→ Eight new Kutis planned
It is the first German forest monastery for monks in the
Theravada tradition and was founded by Ayya Khema in 1997.
Advanced practitioners have the opportunity here to develop
their meditation skills through an extended stay.

People who take advantage of these offers will, on request,
be accompanied in their practice by the residing teachers
and/or ordained monk or nun.

Devaloka – new monks building open
By building a new dwelling house for monks nearby the major
building the monks got the opportunity to live in agreement with
the monastic rules as lonesome as possible but also in the near of
laymen. The name Devaloka means a place where devas like to
stay, too, whose good and secured energy since long is noticeable in
the whole area of Metta Vihara.
Since march 2008 three monks are living in Metta Vihara. For Vassa
(july-octobre 08) six monks will be here.
